About me – Larissa Perego the artist.

I draw inspiration from lots of sources around me, be that movies, popular culture or my picturesque friends.

Once a subject is picked I like to take it to a level of improbable cartoonish perfection of Barbie dolls or manga characters.

I never wanted to be a Barbie doll myself, mainly because I did not fancy knees that bent backwards, but I always loved the look of the exaggerated perfect hyper reality she embodied.

Colour is very significant in my work. It often precedes all the other elements of a painting. I use solid colours with black boarders to highlight shape and significance, simplistically.

I really admire Andy Warhol & the way he made art accessible in everyday life and removed pretension from it by often poking fun at the establishment of that era.

I much rather be happy than be right any day and the same applies for my paintings.

Enjoy & have fun,

Larissa.
