I never wanted to be a Barbie doll myself, mainly because I did not fancy knees that bent backwards, but I always loved the look of the exaggerated perfect hyper reality she embodied.
Colour is very significant in my work. It often precedes all the other elements of a painting. I use solid colours with black boarders to highlight shape and significance, simplistically.
I really admire Andy Warhol, Roy Lichtenstein and many others in the Pop Art movement in the way they made art accessible in everyday life and removed pretension from it by often poking fun at the establishment of their era. I much rather be happy than be right any day and the same applies for my paintings.
